Try your hand at the rudiments of blacksmithing using traditional 19th-century tools and a coal-fired forge. You'll be able to fashion all sorts of useful items during the workshop, and will receive a copy of Old World Wisconsin's Blacksmithing Training Manual. Plus you'll leave with the pride in learning a vital trade from the 1800s! Read about one of our instructors, Darold Rinedollar, in a recent feature article published in "American Profile" magazine. Once you've completed this workshop you'll be eligible to participate in the follow-up Intermediate Blacksmithing workshop.

Autumn on the Farms at Old World Wisconsin

Angels Carried Them Away: Death and Mourning in the Victorian Era

Victorians embraced death as a cause for elaborate ritual. During this era (1876-1915), the ritual of death became increasingly sophisticated and the period saw the development of the modern cemetery, mortician, and public funeral complete with floral arrangements and hearse transportation for the deceased. This program will feature a presentation on Victorian funeral and mourning customs, a first-floor house tour of Black Point estate, and narrated lake boat tour on the Lake Geneva Cruise Line, pointing out maritime mishaps. October 3, 10, and 17; $44.00 per person (space is limited to 40 people per day for this event).

Murder, Mayhem and Mourning at Black Point Estate Major Event

On October 3rd, 10th and 17th, the estate will revive its popular “When Angels Carried Them Away: Death and Mourning in the Victorian Era” program. Victorians embraced death as a cause for elaborate ritual. This program will feature a presentation on Victorian funeral and mourning customs, a first floor house tour, and narrated lake boat tour of maritime mishaps on the Geneva Lake Cruise Line. The presentation will be provided by Black Point docent Steven Person, who is a recently retired funeral director from Walworth Township.

Tickets for the (including narrated boat tour) are $40.00 and can be purchased through the Lake Geneva Cruise Line by calling 262-248-6206.

The cruise departs from the Riviera boat dock located at 812 Wrigley Drive in downtown Lake Geneva each day at 4:00pm and returns at approximately 7:30pm. Tickets are limited to 36 people per date.

Twisted Realms will begin its debut season on Saturday, October 3rd, 2015 at the Walworth County Fair Grounds in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. This Haunted house is going to be like none other you’ve ever experienced. At Twisted Realms, it’s up to you to find your way through the maze and escape the terror. Several areas of the haunt will require you to push buttons, pull levers, move objects, open doors, crawl, or maybe even cause an explosion in a wall to get out. All the while, you’ll be encountering lost souls who want nothing more than for you to join them…and they’re angry. Can you solve the puzzle and escape our maze? See you in the dark….

Fall Family Festival

Lake Lawn Resort is prepping for the changing season with their Fall Family Festival. Activities include: a Friday evening performance by Rock Central students, old-fashioned yard games, scarecrow building, face painting and a fortune teller. Resort guests will also enjoy complimentary hayrides and the opportunity to explore Lake Lawn’s very own pumpkin patch replica.
The festival will continue into Saturday evening with a barn dance with caller from 7-9 PM at no extra cost for guests and just $5 for community members. A full cash bar and concession items, including sloppy joes, chili and corn muffins, will be available for barn dance goers.

The Fall Festival Harvest Buffet will round out the weekend on Sunday from 12:30pm to 3pm. A family-friendly movie on the lakefront at 8pm will conclude the Festival.

Join us for an always spooky, sometimes scary, rain-or-shine event as we celebrate the immigrant legends we brought with us and the folklore we created here at home. Halloween Legends and Lore features the folk and fairytales of the Old World as well as Wisconsin ghost stories from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Explore fantastic mazes, both whimsical and eerie. Burn off energy while fleeing ghosts or dancing in the enchanted fairy circle. Solve strange riddles and puzzles, create and take home macabre artifacts, and encounter cackling witches, gloomy grave diggers, strange beasts, freaky fortune tellers and bizarre entities. Learn the terrifying origins of the Ridgeway Ghost, and witness ghostly tales come to life. Enjoy tasty and disturbing treats and drinks, available for purchase. The evening culminates with a wild bonfire finale.
