Try your hand at the rudiments of blacksmithing using traditional 19th-century tools and a coal-fired forge. You'll be able to fashion all sorts of useful items during the workshop, and will receive a copy of Old World Wisconsin's Blacksmithing Training Manual. Plus you'll leave with the pride in learning a vital trade from the 1800s! Read about one of our instructors, Darold Rinedollar, in a recent feature article published in "American Profile" magazine. Once you've completed this workshop you'll be eligible to participate in the follow-up Intermediate Blacksmithing workshop.

Gone for a Soldier: Civil War Camp and Soldier Experience at Old World Wisconsin

Join our soldiers and get a taste of what Civil War camp life was really like. Muster in, drill with members of the infantry, visit the surgeon’s tent, sample a soldier’s rations, meet the cavalry members and their horses, give the watchwords, go on a scavenger hunt, and experience a little of life on the home front, too.

This is not a battlefield reenactment, but a chance for you and your family to get up close and experience the action of daily camp life as a member of the Midwest's famed Iron Brigade. One weekend only!

Treadfest Mountain Bike Race

Treadfest is mountain bike race #10 in the Wisconsin Off Road Series (WORS). Treadfest, celebrating its 9th year, routinely brings 1,500 mountain bike enthusiasts who enjoy the biking experience, family fun, and all that Lake Geneva has to offer over the Treadfest weekend.

Treadfest begins on Saturday, September 5, 2015 with a marked pre-ride of the course and free Learn to Race Clinic hosted by experienced WORS Racers. The course is open to pre-ride from 10am to 4:30pm. On Sunday, September 6, 2015 Juniors, Citizens, Sport, and Pro Racers race on courses designed specifically for their fitness and ability levels. Also available is a kids race which provides an opportunity for the whole family can get involved. Treadfest is a great way to spend an afternoon or the weekend pushing yourself to your limit on challenging, fun singletrack, with family and friends. Treadfest is managed and run by Tread head Cycling which is Southern Wisconsin’s premiere social bicycle club based in Lake Geneva. Wine & Food Festival

Lake Lawn Resort is whetting appetites with a weekend dedicated completely to wine and food enthusiasts during their second annual Wine and Food Festival. With a Friday night wine dinner featuring guest sommeliers, a wine and food vendor showcase on Saturday, and bountiful buffets, Lake Lawn has a menu of events to satisfy any craving. A portion of the proceeds from the weekend festivities will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Walworth County.

The excitement begins Friday evening with the Wine Maker’s “Taste Off” Dinner from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Guests to the wine dinner will be treated to a wine dinner “taste off” pitting French vs California wines with a specially crafted 5 course meal by award winning Chef David Ross. Guests will be tasked to determine the best pairings. Tickets for the Wine Maker’s Dinner are $65 per person.

Headlining the weekend lineup is The Great Taste from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The showcase will feature samples of over 125 domestic and international wines and champagnes, including labels from France, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Italy, California, and Washington, as well as local grapes from right here in Wisconsin. Top area restaurants will provide complimentary bites throughout the day. A one hour, expert-led, wine seminar will offer insights into production and pairing processes. All of this plus live entertainment, a silent auction with proceeds benefiting the Walworth County Boys & Girls Club, a goody bag, and a commemorative wine glass are included. Tickets for The Great Taste are $40 per person, available only to those 21 or older.

Lake Lawn is offering inclusive Wine & Food Festival stay packages so connoisseurs can take full advantage of the festivities. Packages start at $649 for two nights, plus resort fee and taxes, and include admission to the Wine Maker’s Dinner and The Great Taste for two adults. Package guests will be able to round out the weekend of fine food and drink with the Frontier Restaurant’s Prime Rib Buffet Saturday evening, and a Sunday Champagne Brunch featuring all the breakfast essentials and hearty lunch.

The Open House is sponsored by the Library Board of Trustees, Friends, and Foundation and will feature refreshments; guest speakers; and an unveiling of stained glass art by Ed Gilbertson, dedicated to Library benefactor Harold Hartshorne, Jr. The renovation was made possible through private funds and was designed by Jamie Hegel, Dresser’s daughter.

Walking Tour of Downtown Lake Geneva

The first tour will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m. after an Open House at the Lake Geneva Public Library (918 W. Main Street). The second tour will begin at 2:30 p.m. in front of the Riviera Fountain (812 Wrigley Drive). The tour is $8 per person, $15 for two, and net proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Lake Geneva Public Library. At The Abbey Resort, Fontana, on Geneva Lake.  This year the show will feature antique, classic and vintage boats from all over the country.  Admission is free. Highlights include boats ranging in style and age from 1900 to modern reproductions.  There will be an artist's fair including many local and regional artists an their works for sale. There will also be live demonstrations with local artists in their chosen medium. The Lake Geneva Hope Walk

The Lake Geneva Hope Walk is a non-competitive walk that raises funds to fight breast cancer. The Hope Walk started when a group of local women decided to create a fundraiser to help less financially able women in their fight against breast cancer. The Hope Walk has grown to include individuals that come from all over to join in the walk and fight against breast cancer. This year proceeds go to the Aurora Health Care Breast Treatment Assistance Program. This program helps educate women and defrays medical expenses for uninsured and underinsured women for mammograms.

Angels Carried Them Away: Death and Mourning in the Victorian Era

Victorians embraced death as a cause for elaborate ritual. During this era (1876-1915), the ritual of death became increasingly sophisticated and the period saw the development of the modern cemetery, mortician, and public funeral complete with floral arrangements and hearse transportation for the deceased. This program will feature a presentation on Victorian funeral and mourning customs, a first-floor house tour of Black Point estate, and narrated lake boat tour on the Lake Geneva Cruise Line, pointing out maritime mishaps.
